#Test4ProstateCancer

Figure 1: Prostate Cancer does exist.
It is cancer that occurs in the prostate- a small walnut- shaped gland in men that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes and transport sperm. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/prostate-cancer/symptoms-causes/syc-20353087

Advantages of using the hashtag on social media

  • Educate & Inform
Figure 2: Get your mind straight.

This hashtag will help men generate information and understanding on the importance of getting testing; symptoms; causes; prevention; risk factors; and complications.

  • Motivation

As much as most men prefer to be reserved/ private about their personal lives, with this post one can motivate the other especially when he can relate with the topic- If you had this type of cancer before, the post will be a motivation as it will erase the feeling of a loner- "no one can relate" mentality. It will inspire you to change your mindset into a positive one.

  • Help & Attract investors/ businesses

With the reality that this is a personal topic to share about, the post will somehow make it easy for businesses to create campaigns or social groups as it will create publicity and as more people would be familiar with the topic.

  • Call- To- Action

Figure 3: Take that step today.
The article will persuade men to get tested; to have the interest to want to know their status; to have the need to care, the list is endless.

Disadvantages of using the hashtag on social media

  • Lack of interest
I am not the first person to share about this topic which means that many people have tried their luck before, so if it does not attract the targeted audience- in this case men, no one will have the interest in reading about it. With the post's ineffectiveness, no interest will be generated.

  • Negative Mindset
Figure 4: "I can't do it" mentality
It is believed that cancer comes and goes and with that mentality, some men may think that there is point in getting tested as anything is possible. So the post may occur as another "waste of time" to the audience.

  • Discomfort
Figure 5: Everyone has their own beliefs

The post may appear as a discomfort zone for other men, since they would believe that such a topic should not be disclosed in public and may also believe that getting tested is a way of belittling yourself, mainly because they will be disclosing their personal information to strangers. Not every man trusts going to the doctor, let alone being tested. So therefore, this article may be a "swipe to left" post.

It is consequently significant that one takes consideration of getting tested. It may seem useless or pointless but this is your life at risk. So start today and #Test4ProstateCancer.

  1. I think cancer is a very sensitive issue in people's lives, and getting someone to talk about it especially those who might find that they have it is very difficult. Stories are different others will survive and others will not. My question now is how do we keep the ones who just found out about it motivated that they might be survivors too.

  2. Every cancer has its own stages and if one was to get their results positive, the first step is encouraging them to take treatment; to join a cancer social club/ group.
So yes, you get ur results but it doesn't end. You had the courage to take the first step- which is getting tested, but the journey does not end there.

  3. People should be educated on how to prevent such illness like certain food or things cause cancer but the public do not know the effects of eating them. And those having it should feel free to talk about it as it will help them reduce stress and they migh get help which will lead to a long life .

  4. Indeed cancer is a very sensitive issues to deal with but then again we need to let people know that it exists and as a PRP it is an opportunity to show our communities and our stakeholders that we can.#SaveA LIFEHOUSE and educate

  5. Yes cancer is real and more and more people are getting it. People should take note of changes in their bodies. We know that men especially do not like to go to the doctor. The earlier cancer is detected the better. With early detection and treatment cancer can be cured.

  11. They only need to be brave and consider their healthy first, therefore they need to get tested just to be on the safe side

  12. I believe that regular check ups to the doctor can prevent illness such as prostate cancer. It is important to not be ignorant about our health so that we can live longer.

  13. Even though social media may not talk as directly to men who suffer with prostrate cancer generally (men over 50) - I still think utilizing the hashtag is a good idea because it raises awareness with a younger generation who 1) will be aware of the risks before they reach the age of 50 and will therefore get tested ahead of time and 2) these younger men may apply pressure to the older men (say in their families) to go and get tested.

  14. Cancer is a very sensitive topic but it is also one that is least spoken about in the sense that we are not properly informed. The likelihood of you hearing that someone or someone who knows someone one has cancer is much higher than you finding out that person may be HIV positive. I personally have lost members of my family due to cancer and it has created so much awareness within our family that we actually started getting tested annually. After the first death in our family we later came to discover that after being tested 3 of my family members had been diagnosed with cancer which we would not have known, this is now something we consider hereditary. As a result thereof we find that going through the motions of finding out you have cancer is easier than losing a loved one duet to cancer detected late. Education is key!

  15. it is a pity that it is such an expensive disease to treat,I wish government can subsidise treatment, unfortunately not everyone is able to afford it...sad reality!!

  16. It is important to get tested, but scary at the same time. to be told that you have a life threatening disease is not easy, even when you know it can be treated when detected on time, and for this to happen one will have to go for testing. So in actual fact, we have no other way but to be tested. Cancer is a dangerous disease, it hides in your body and by the time its detected it might be too late. my father in-law was diagnosed with cancer a month ago and what is sad is that it’s on stage 4 and there is nothing the doctors can do because he is too old to go for treatment. Companies should have quarterly health check drives, to encourage men to get tested.

  18. Sure! This topic will make people realize the importance of getting tested.

  19. If people can stop being ignorant about such things, and start taking action by getting information and learn or know more about cancer this will actually help us to go and get tested even for the cancer to be diagnosed early.
